Author Interview: Janette Dalgliesh

8 October 2011

Over coming days, Kayelle Press will be conducting interviews with the authors of Hope. It will give our readers the opportunity to learn more about the authors and their stories.

Today, it gives me great pleasure to introduce Janette Dalgliesh, author of the story Burned in the Black.

Please tell us a bit about yourself, Janette.

I live in a tiny house in Ballarat with my hubby and our huge collection of books and movies. I’ve been a union organizer, a market researcher, a puppeteer, a political speechwriter and a restaurant manager. I read and write speculative fiction, as well as occasional poetry, and I’m a life coach specializing in identity shifting.

That’s some mix of professions you have there. In regards to your writing, what is your story in the Hope anthology about and what inspired it?

My story “Burned in the Black” explores the phenomenon of burnout, and what choices we might make when our former passions or values turn to dust. The characters and their world grew out of a desire to play around with cowpunk.

And what can the readers expect from you in the near future?

I’m excited to be working on a stories for two different editions of Jodi Cleghorn’s Literary Mix Tapes series. For Tiny Dancer, I’m in the final edit stages of my story “The Gods Are Just”; while for Deck The Halls I’ve just begun a story, and it’s too early to say what it’s about – though there will be gryphons.
