Author Interview: Karen Lee Field
14 October 2011
Today’s Hope author is Karen Lee Field, author of Boundaries.
Please tell us a bit about yourself, Karen.
Born in London, England I was seven when my parents decided to move to Sydney, Australia. I’ve enjoyed the outdoor life ever since and love spending time with family and friends. I love escaping to fantasy worlds — places where my sometimes ordinary life is transformed into an exciting adventure. My debut children’s novel, Cat’s Eyes, was published in 2010 and my short stories appear in several anthologies. I currently lives west of Sydney, in the beautiful Blue Mountains.
What is your Hope anthology story about and what inspired it?
It’s primarily about not always getting what we want and having to settle for something less than perfect, much like life really. I wrote it because we are often told we can have anything if we put our minds to it, but in reality that isn’t always possible. However, it doesn’t mean we have to give up and often ‘second best’ might work out better in other ways if we embrace it instead of letting it hold us back.
What are you working on at the moment?
The second book to Cat’s Eyes and a bunch of related short stories which gives a glimpse of the lives of minor characters in the series.
