Author Interview: Paul Haines
11 October 2011
Today’s feature Hope author is Paul Haines, author of High Tide at Hot Water Beach.
Paul, please tell us a bit about yourself.
I am an award-winning author of three collections of speculative fiction, the most recent being “The Last Days Of Kali Yuga” (Brimstone Press, 2011). I am considered to be one of the darkest and most disturbing short story writers working in Australia today. I live on the Mornington Peninsula outside Melbourne with my wife and daughter. In 2007 I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer.
I am truly sorry to hear about the cancer, Paul, and hope all is going well where that is concerned. What is your Hope story about and what inspired it?
My story “High Tide At Hot Water Beach” is directly influenced by my experience with cancer. It is about the lengths one would go to themselves in order to stay alive, even if to others it looked like you were killing yourself.
It sounds like an emotional, powerful story. What are you working on at present?
I’m working on a Wolf Creek prequel novel with the movie director Greg McLean.
